Our Kids Place
Our mission is to create an environment that is conducive to healthy learning for all of the students we serve. At Our Kids Place, we strive to engage our students using a curriculum that is balanced, rigorous and standards based. Our primary goals are to:
Ensure our students become independent thinkers, problem solvers, and for them to develop a love for learning and discovery. Teach students to be creative, expressive, well – rounded, and responsible. Develop self-esteem and respect for themselves and others in a safe, loving and sociable environment. Our success in this mission would be measured through our students’ achievement in acquiring the necessary skills to become leaders, lifelong learners, and productive members of society;thus, becoming assets to their community.
While raising my two daughters and interacting with children of all ages, I discovered that I had a strong connection with children and that they found a comfort zone within my presence. Shortly after this discovery, I founded a school bus company named LesRaine Transit, Inc. While providing this service, I realized there was a need for high-quality afterschool programs which would serve as a safe haven for young children of working parents.
Motivating and encouraging students to become innovative and independent thinkers is a deep passion of mine. From an early age, I have been surrounded with a wide array of childcare practices and I only bring the best of those experiences to the table every day. My passion to bring out the best in students is what motivates me to be the best I can be for my students.
I started at OKP long before I knew what I wanted to do with my life. After completing my education at LIU Post, I realized that I was in love with business, specifically, management. Being at OKP is like having the best of both worlds. I am able to utilize my business degree but also fulfill my passion for molding and educating the youth in our community. Continuing to run the dance program each year is an added bonus to an already fulfilling job!
Ms. Lori Ann
Hola! My name is Lori-Ann Cardoza and I am profoundly grateful to be a kindergarten teacher here at Our Kids Place. My passion for educating children came about seven years ago immediately after the birth of my daughter. I received my Associate Degree in Teachers Education at Medgar Evers College, where I am also pursing another degree in Early Childhood Special Education with a concentration in Psychology.
Being a component of Our Kids Place has impacted my life tremendously. Not only are we a second family but we ensure that we allow the kids to be a factor in our lives. We treat them like they’re our own kids and assist them in ways that can benefit them in life. The staff at OKP don’t just function as co-workers but operate as a family outside of our profession.
Children are the center of the universe. Their ability to learn is in part what attracts me to help foster the growth and development of them. I love helping people. Providing educational instruction for children is second nature to me. One of my goals is to be a driving force and the catalyst that will enable them to attain their God’s given potential. My greatest joy is seeing the demonstrable purpose and growth that these children show as they pass through the learning process, and achieve their full potential. I feel very honored to have this opportunity to impact these young minds positively.
My name is Marisol Munoz, and I am proud to be a part of the staff at Our Kids Place. I received my bachelor’s degree from the Universidad Catolica de Santiago de Chile as a Pre-school teacher with a minor in psychology and music. Over the years, I have gained more than 25 years of teaching experience! I enjoy working with children and seeing how much they learn and grow. They make you laugh with the little things they say as they learn. I love every aspect of teaching and have realized in my years that they can teach us as much as we teach them
I love waking up everyday knowing that I’m making a difference. Seeing the joy on a child’s face when they learn something new is what keeps me in love with childhood education. I’ve been working at Our Kids Place since I was 16 years old participating in summer youth, now years later as a teacher’s assistant, I’ve learned so much.
Teaching is one of the most rewarding careers one can commence. A teacher can make a difference by assisting each of his or her students to fully maximize their imagination, creativity, talents, skills and character. Those that teach have a true vocation.
